The Rotary Club of Yeovil
Can you help us to help them?
Children’s hospices are special places and are dedicated to making the most of short and precious lives. Children who use these services are unlikely to reach adulthood and most will die before or during their teenage years.
The county of Somerset has only one Children’s Hospice, Charlton Farm, located near
Wraxall, where there are eight dedicated children’s rooms and facilities for respite
care for them and their families throughout their brief lives. Last year over 200
children used the hospice. The very special care that Charlton Farm provides is vital;
it also comes at a significant cost. With very little government funding they rely
almost entirely on the generosity of supporters to enable the services to continue.
In 2010, the Rotary clubs in Yeovil held an “It’s Childsplay” walkabout at Nine Springs Country Park during the early May public holiday, raising over £3,000 with 80 walkers on the day. In 2011 twice as many walkers raised almost £8,000. There are a few photographs from the 2011 event below.
We will be doing the same in 2012... on Sunday 6th May and, with your help, hope to raise over £10,000 for the benefit of the children.
Participating walkers can decide where they start, how far they walk and with whom they walk.
Therefore anyone of any age or ability can take part. You can walk 100 metres or
10 miles! All we ask is that you try to get sponsorship of at least £10. If you would
prefer to cycle or even swim some sponsored lengths at Goldenstones pool that is
fine by us as long as you can check in at the finish. In fact, we’re not even too
precious about the date -
Thank you for reading this, which is just an outline of this year’s event and to get the date into your diary. Further information can be found in the documents that will soon be available to download from this website.
